CARDIAC (Italy) interview: Betty answers

Oxido- Hi Betty, it's a pleasure to make this interview with you. We recently discovered CARDIAC, and feel very impressed for the band, and specially for your marvellous voice. Please, tell us when was CARDIAC born, and who are the band's members.

Betty- Thank you....I'm happy you like our music. The band was born in 2007: Bob Stoner (bass guitar) Marc Berry (guitars) and I (voice) are the founders...shortly after Min o))) (drums) joined the group and now we are like a family.

Oxido- CARDIAC's sounds is very special. How could you describe the mixture of styles that you play?

Betty- The band style is strongly marked by the presence of  noisy guitars (Sonic Youth and Norma Jean sound), pulsing rhytmics (Killing Joke). The songs are a prog style scheme from both the past and the future, from King Crimson to Porcupine Tree and Opeth, with an Isis impact and a new wave/post punk atmosphere created by the ethereal, melodic use of the voice (sometimes inspired to celtic melodies)

Oxido- CARDIAC has a first EP called "Contro l'astuta sublime mancanza di verità". What can you tell us about it?

Betty- Yes,“contro l'astuta sublime mancanza di verità” is our first ep for bubble blood record, a wonderful brand which gave us the freedom to express ourselves totally.

Actually before this we self-producted 2 ep. In this album we reached a good rhytmic coesion with a stronger progressive sound; the quality of thr recording gave me the opportunity to experience more with my voice, at certain points there  are 3 or 4 different voices together. We are very proud of it, eventhough we have to say that on stage we aren't as easy to be listened as on cd, where the listener has more time to enjoy the introspective and sofisticaed atmosphere (less metal) we create.

Oxido- Who write the music and lyrics, and which are the concepts of the songs?

Betty- The bassist Bob Stoner and I take care of the lyrics whereas the music composition is the result of the group sharing ideas, we're a very democratic band! Our lyrics talk about spirituality, freedom from this material world's  slavery and rebellion against the mass controlling system we live in. We are involved with christian core and celtic christianism but we don't want to teach anythnig to anybody, we just want people to refelect and get their own conclusions.

Oxido- We can listen you singing in your natal language on the most part of the EP, mixed with several other languages. Why did you decided to do this? 

Betty- The idea of using different languages (English, Italian, French and “Tzimbar”-Ancient german language typical of mountains areas in Veneto) was natural for us, whereas the use of a new language (we call it the Elfic) was aimed to improve and give no boundaries to my vocal experiences, getting free from the phonetical limitations of our own language.

Oxido- Which are your personal influences, and favourite singers?

Betty- This is a good question! My personal influences are linked mostly to “Dead can dance” experimantal approach and my best vocalist chart involves Lisa Gerrad, Siouxie, Elisabeth Frazer (Cocteau Twins), Loreena McKennit and last but not least Dolores O'Riordan (Cranberries). As you can see there are no Metal female voices in my background, I'm the electronic-ambient soul of the band; Marc Berry and Bob Stoner are the Hard rock side since they are fan of grindcore, black metal and stoner, postcore, noise and heavy psichedelia, besides celtic folk music. We don't like boundaries!

Oxido- You're natives of Verona. What can you tell us about the Rock scene of your city? 

Betty- Yes, we all come from Verona. The rock scene in here is very active but full of different tastes. There are many alternative bands and some of them have reached good feedback but there is no real cohoperation amongst the bands and this is in a way blocking any kind of developmnet of the situation. Electronic, Hip-pop- Punk and rock'n'roll are the styles more appreciated here...we are trying to be original anyway!

Oxido- There's a videoclip for the song "Tre Ore Come Lei". Please, tell us about it.

Betty- The video has been made by video maker M.L. Pieropan, a friend of our who also worked for other bands. We like it because is obscure and direct at the same time, it is low cost and for us was the first time, it's not so easy to be interesting in front of the camera...we're already thinking about a new one for the upcoming full lenght.

Oxido- Which had been the best and the worst moment of the band, till now?

Betty- As I was telling you before, the band, with  Min o))) joining us, became a sort of family and after a long time together the high and low moments don't matter anymore...Maybe the releasing of our cd and the signing with Bubble blood Records gave us a new strenght and we can say this is actually our best moment wich is materialising in the new album making.

Oxido- Had you played out of Italy?

Betty- no, we haven't had this opportunity yet, we'd like it, maybe in the future...we'll see.

Oxido- Which are CARDIAC's plans for the rest of the year?

Betty- As said before, we're preparing a new video in collaboration with a modern classic dancer for a new electric album which we're going to start recording in October and will be released next year; in the meantime a new ep containing some of our songs rearranged in an acustic version will be released next september. This is the outcoming of a series of sessions we played along with poetry pieces (Baudelaire, Rimbaud...) read by actors on stage. The cd will be released under Bubble Blood Records and will showcase our introspective and progressive soul mixed with a celtic and vaguely spanish sound....melody and technique together...what an experience!

Oxido- Betty: Thanks a lot for your time and your answers. Is there anything more that you want to add?

Betty- Thank you for the opportunity and I suggest you to keep on following us becasue you'll be surely surprised by our music. We leave you with our mantra: Money is not our god! Stay wide, stay clean, do it yourself! Cheers!

Entrevista a TIERRAMYSTICA

1- Es un gran placer para nosotros concretar esta entrevista con músicos tan talentosos como TIERRAMYSTICA. Han sorprendido muy gratamente al público argentino con las dos visitas que ya han concretado a este país! Cuánto hace que existe TIERRAMYSTICA y quiénes la conforman hoy en día?

Hola Javier, mucho gusto estar escribiendo para los hermanos argentinos a través de Oxido! Muchas gracias doy en nombre de Tierramystica y su staff por la estupenda receptividad en estas dos ocasiones que pasamos por Argentina. Bien, Tierramystica se ha formado en enero de 2008 y actualmente está compuesto por: Gui Antonioli – voz y percusión; Alexandre Tellini – guitarras eléctrica y acústicas,zampoñas; Fabiano Muller – guitarras eléctrica y acústica, quena; Rafael Martinelli – bajo y Zampoñas; Luciano Thumé – teclados; Ricardo “Chileno” Durán – charango, guitarra acústica, zampoñas, ocarinas, craviola y voz; Rafa Dachary – batería y bombo leguero. El grupo tiene el honor de en las presentaciones en vivo tener en los “vientos andinos” – quenas, zampoñas – el maestro Ademar Farinha, aquí de Brazil también.

2- Cuál es el concepto musical que transmite la banda? Al ver las portadas de los álbumes y luego escuchar la música, se nos aparecen inmediatamente imágenes relacionadas con la cultura latinoamericana en general; especialmente con el arte incaico, azteca, andino, etc..

Exactamente! El concepto de Tierramystica conduce a una experiencia musical que abarca como “background” nuestra mitología y imaginario ancestral, con asuntos llevados a lo espiritual, a la re conexión del alma, del espíritu a los verdaderos valores, a la naturaleza, a nuestra riquísima cultura ancestral, pero con una sonoridad muy moderna. Por eso la temática pre colombina en las portadas, pero sin perder las características de un buen grupo de rock! Pues puedes escuchar al mismo tiempo la fusión entre lo autóctono, lo acústico andino/latino con las guitarras, teclados, batería doble bombera, y todo en harmonía!

3- El estilo de TIERRAMYSTICA nos ha parecido realmente original, máxime tratándose de una agrupación brasileña. De dónde fluye su interés en los tópicos sobre los que componen?

Bueno, no obstante el idioma portugués que nos aleja un tanto de los países latinos vecinos, tenemos convicción del valor de nuestra cultura como latinoamericanos, y nada mas natural que representar eso en nuestro trabajo, tenemos mucho orgullo de nuestras raíces sudamericanas, para que tengas una idea en el grupo y staff tenemos a varios representantes de las nacionalidades latinas: brasileños, yo soy chileno, nuestro técnico de sonido es uruguayo, nuestro “representante” en las tierras argentinas Guido Lisioli… o sea nuestra propia cultura es nuestra principal inspiración, sin embargo no se puede negar a la influencia de los grandes grupos de rock de todos los tiempos, como Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Queen, Deep Purple y etc.

4- No tuvimos oportunidad de escuchar el nuevo álbum, recientemente editado; pero sí vuestro debut, “A New Horizon Comes...”. Debemos felicitarlos, obviamente, por la música. Pero además, también por el arte de tapa, que es maravilloso. Puedes explicarlo, y contarnos quién es el artista?

Muchas gracias! Bueno, el responsable fue el excelente artista Marcus Muller aquí de Brazil, a quien tuvo la responsabilidad de poner en forma de imagen la sonoridad de Tierramystica! O sea,la idea es que al topar con los ojos a la portada, ya se posible entender de qué se trata la temática y el sonido del grupo. Y creemos que fue posible con su magnifico trabajo!

5- Han visto la película “Aguirre, La Ira De Dios”? Puede tomarse como una influencia volcada en “A New Horizon Comes...”?

Yo vi la película, y el asunto de la conquista y colonización por parte europea es muy evidente en el “A New Horizon” pero con un toque todo transcendental. Todo aquello que sucedió (y todavía sucede!) de dominación y imposición de cultura lo abordamos, pero ahora con la intención de mostrar que nosotros también tenemos una identidad muy fuerte - cultural y folclórica - y eso queda muy evidente en nuestra música.

6- Después de su álbum debut han lanzado un DVD, “A New Legend, A New Journey”. Puedes contarnos de qué se trata el mismo?

Bueno, este DVD fue un registro en vivo en nuestra ciudad – Porto Alegre/Brazil – en octubre de 2011, en la cual fue posible una excelente producción mostrando en audio y en el escenario todo lo que es Tierramystica en vivo, como para encerrar la gira ya de dos años del “A New Horizon”. Así pues en este show tocamos por entero todo el álbum, además de algunos extras como testimonios de nosotros del grupo. Sin duda es un registro memorable, para aquellos que escuchan el CD y se quedan con las ganas de saber como es Tierramystica en vivo, ahí esta!

7- Y finalmente, el segundo disco acaba de ser lanzado hace pocas semanas. Qué puedes contarnos acerca de él, y cuáles son las similitudes y diferencias con “A New Horizon Comes...”?

Bien, el “Heir of the Sun” viene a reafirmar nuestra identidad con nuestra cultura, pero ya con toda la musicalidad más madura. Todo lo que es acústico/andino está mas intenso, a si como lo de metal, más intenso y poderoso sin perder la accesibilidad a los oídos menos entrenados, pues es posible mostrar nuestras músicas a cualquier persona, mismo que no sea del metal o rock. Así como en el primer CD, este también lleva las características gráficas en la portada de la propuesta del grupo. Me ha parecido que la mezcla está cada vez más sonando como algo único!

8- La música de TIERRAMYSTICA nos parece extremadamente esperanzadora y luminosa. Es así? Contrasta un poco con el habitual mensaje oscuro y siniestro del Heavy Metal, en general?

El resultado musical de Tierramystica puede también ser interpretado como con un mensaje esperanzador y luminoso, y creo que es algo natural y esperado cuando se busca salir de lo común al estilo y traer nuevas influencias. Así se hacen las renovaciones en el arte, sea en la música o en otro canal de expresión artística.

9- Además de las visitas a Argentina, en qué otros países han podido tocar, fuera de Brasil?

Estamos ya preparándonos para salir nuevamente de Brazil con la gira de “Heirs of the Sun”, por mientras estamos finalizando los contactos y a ver donde mas será posible llevar a Tierramystica. Pues invitaciones de todo el mundo ya son realidad.

10- Cuáles han sido el mejor y el peor momento de la banda hasta ahora?

Bueno, es un poco difícil decir, pues como dijiste siempre están los momentos extraordinarios y los bajones … tuvimos a poco la salida de nuestro amigo y baterista Duca Gomes, quien nos estaba acompañando del inicio del grupo, pero creo que un momento muy especial fue la gira brasileña con Scorpions, así como acompañar a Nightwish pues fue posible al grupo integrar una mega producción y estar a par de cómo esto todo funciona. Además, poder grabar un trabajo como es el de Tierramystica y en apenas 5 años ya tener dos CD´s y un DVD en tiempos de download son realmente momentos de mucha celebración.

11- Aquí en Argentina han compartido escenario con músicos de primera línea internacional: Nightwish. Qué aprendizaje puede tomarse de colegas tan consagrados internacionalmente? Sirve la experiencia?

Con esas experiencias se toma la medida de que estamos bien en el camino, que la calidad de los grupos de aquí (sudamericanos) no están nada debajo de los “gringos” y que ya somos vistos como posibles “competidores” en el mercado musical mundial. Es muy gratificante al salir del stage darse cuenta de que Marco Hietala estuvo asistiendo a todo nuestro show y dándonos congratulaciones con una sonrisa tipo: “como hacen esto todo?” Así como Mathias Jabbs y Rudolf Schenker con su “thank you, so much!” al salir del escenario en los shows de Brazil, bien como Coan Janssen de Epica que filmo todos nuestros shows en la gira con ellos, y que nos preguntaba: “Como es posible hacer ese tipo de mezcla? Este sonido?“

12- Finalmente, además de agradecerles por su tiempo y sus respuestas, quisiéramos saber cuáles son los planes de TIERRAMYSTICA para el resto de 2013, ahora que “Heirs Of The Sun” ya está a disposición del público. Y también pedirles las palabras de cierre de la entrevista, para que agreguen cualquier cosa que deseen decir o que no les hayamos preguntado. Muchas gracias!

NUCLEAR STRIKES (Malaysia) interview

1- Hi friends of Nuclear Strikes! It's a pleasure for us to make this
interview with you, a Heavy Metal band from a distant country -for us-,
Malaysia... Please, tell the ppl that doesn't know Nuclear Strikes when was
it formed, and who are the members.

It all began in 2002, at that time we only play with the concept of music Heavy Metal and

Speed Metal , in 2003 we play Heavy Metal/Thrash, alongside the band  called ANTACID. In 2005, Rex and 1.2 Kill began expedite Jack hammer (now called Nuclear Strikes) and

during the 80's Heavy Metal music has long been forgotten in our country, there are only

modern style of heavy metal music only, at the time we started playing songs like Judas priest cover and

Riot and some of our own songs. In the same year, we started out Nuclear Strikes with line-up by Rex, 1.2kill, Iron Speed, Thunderbolt and male vocalist (Anort). Nuclear strikes began performing in 2007 with Anort (only one gig performance).  Then the singer been replaced by the EKEY MIZUME

female singer, with opportunity to expand our her here, but not long after that,

Ekey Mizume leaving the Nuclear Strikes. In 2008 we found Steelgirl Ladyana. After plenty of stage shows, concert etc, Nuclear Strikes name became a reference in our country till now.

2- You are from a country -like Argentina, too- that is far from the big
centres of Heavy Metal in the world. Please, tell us about the Malaysia's
Heavy Metal scene.

Malaysia’s rock begins as early as 50's by Julia (Tandak Rock). Phenomenon began in the early 70's starting with the band called Sweet Charity. In the mid 80's Heavy Metal Rock also began to dominate the entertainment in our country. Occur at the end of 80's, the music was banned for 2 years, no longer present as a more open mindset. In the 90's Malaysia produced abundant underground band concept Thrash, Death, Black as Cromok, Sil Khannaz, Brain Dead, along with the flow of metal music world.. in the era of 2000 apart from Nuclear Strikes no longer that generation of notable bands such as Antacid, Vault.. this era of rock music ,we got  more space to breath .

3- And how is this situation of playing Heavy Metal in a country where the
principal traditions are in a totally different way?

As told in the previous question Malaysia more open,  must follow the guidelines and the criteria set.

4- Nuclear Strikes has a female singer. Do that change anything for the
band, and for the fans reactions?

Good change. Lack of Heavy Metal Female singer in the early establishment. Fans know us better existence.

5- Please, tell us about the EP "Megastorm Eyes". We had listened it, a
very good álbum... the first song is a real Metal hit!

Megastorm Eyes  an introduction of Nuclear Strikes to  metal fans all over the world ..Among  six songs with Heavy Metal and Hard Rock  in some form , between  songs an  continuation of  upcoming album..  fact you will hear more Heavy Metal arrangements.

6- Did Nuclear Strikes play out of Malaysia? Where?

At this time, Not yet. Many days to hit hahahaha.. More to come and we aim for that.

7- Which had been the best moments of the band till now?

Live show at National University of Malaysia (U.K.M) that famous, which does not receive heavy metal music over the establishment of the university. 

We feel great,
We are the 1st Heavy Metal band make a live show there. 
Breaking the Law, hahaha., from there we make the band name chanting on the lips of fans in our country.

8- And which are the personal dreams of everyone of the members for the
future of Nuclear Strikes? What do you expect, where would you like to
reach?

Well Known Heavy Metal Band Around The World..

9- Please, tell us about Nuclear Strike's plans for this 2013.

Will issue a Single Album for Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia with two songs in our native language (Malay).. and a Full Album in english language at the end of anticipated!

10- Thanks a lot for your time and your answers, friends. Is there anything

Entrevista a WILD KITTEN (Grecia): Responde FOXY (Vocalista)

O: Por favor, cuéntale a la gente que no conoce a WILD KITTEN cuándo fue creada la banda y cuál era por entonces la formación. Todavía continúan todos los mismos integrantes?

F: WILD KITTEN fue concebido en enero de 2008 debido al amor hacia el Hard Rock / Hair Metal de la vocalista Eliz y del guitarrista Nikki Love. Los integrantes han ido cambiando desde aquélla formación original, simplemente para que llegaran los mejores miembros posibles: Roxx Ztarr (batería), John A. Lytras (guitarra) y Teo Anifas (bajo).

O: WILD KITTEN es oriundo de Larisa... Qué puedes decirnos acerca de la escena Metal / Rock de tu ciudad natal?

F: Lo bueno es que nuevas bandas surgen a diario, a pesar de las grandes dificultades... Ya eso sólo es muy promisorio. Larisa tiene una larga historia en grupos de Heavy Metal pero desgraciadamente son historias de agrupaciones que no duraron mucho! No es sencillo involucrarse con la música Rock o Heavy Metal en Grecia debido a que las principales corrientes son totalmente diferentes. Aún dentro de la escena Metal somos únicos en nuestra especie! Somos los únicos en Larisa actualmente, y durante los últimos cuatro años, que tocamos esta clase de música! El resto de las bandas son más volcadas al Stoner, al Death Metal o al Grunge... En realidad eso no importa, mientras haya grupos expresándose en el Rock y el Heavy Metal, eso significará que vamos todavía por el camino correcto!

O: Y qué puedes comentarnos acerca del inusual hecho de ser una agrupación de Glam Metal / Hard Rock en Grecia...? Tu país es una de las cunas culturales de la Humanidad, pero suponemos que debe ser más difícil que si vivieran en Los Angeles, no?

F: Como mencioné antes, no es sencillo tocar esta clase de música en Grecia! Pero nosotros creemos verdaderamente que si eres bueno y apasionado en lo que haces, entonces no importa dónde estés, tu trabajo será reconocido. Seguramente, si viviéramos en Los Angeles probablemente el reconocimiento hubiera sido más fácil y rápido. Pero desafortunadamente no vivimos en Los Angeles! Estamos en Grecia y eso sólo significa que tenemos que trabajar más duramente y mejorar constantemente! Y no hay nada malo en eso!

O: Consideras que es posible reverdecer toda esa magia del Glam / Hair Metal de los 80's?

F: Ninguna otra era, aparte de los 80's, produjo un efecto tan mágico... Por qué no? Es la clase de música que nunca morirá y será siempre recordada y tocada constantemente por las generaciones por venir... Quiero decir, realmente... Quién se acuerda de los 90's o de los 00's?! Lo único que podemos hacer, a modo de tributo a esa época maravillosa, es producir algo que tenga un sonido más moderno, no recrearla porque eso es imposible!

O: Pudimos ver algunas imágenes de WILD KITTEN tocando en vivo. Qué puede esperar un fanático que asista a vuestros shows?

F: Puro Hard Rock con un toque de sordidez Glam!! Riffs desgarradores pero con una necesaria cantidad de tonos melódicos! Mucha energía y pasión sobre el escenario! Y finalmente pueden esperar llegar al infierno de una vez!!

O: Tú eres una hermosa mujer, con una fuerte presencia y un poderoso sex appeal. Es posible apartar esos detalles de la música de WILD KITTEN? Quiero decir: cuál es la importancia de tu poder visual dentro de la propuesta de la banda?

F: Nunca me hicieron esta pregunta antes! Nunca voy a pretender que mi apariencia no tiene nada que ver con lo que obtengamos como banda o cuan exitosos seamos! Es un elemento que sirve de llave, como en cada aspecto de nuestras vidas, nos guste o no! En lo que concierne al grupo, me aseguro de usar toda mi presencia y sex appeal para beneficio de la banda y no para otra cosa! Además... las buenas imágenes han sido siempre importantes para nuestra clase de música, desde los 80's! El poder visual es igualmente importante que la música que produces, especialmente en nuestros días. Pensar de otra manera, es simplemente ingenuo.

O: Qué nos puedes contar acerca de las experiencias de la banda hasta ahora? Cuál dirías que ha sido su mejor momento?

F: Entre los shows en vivo y los momentos en que nuestro primer CD estuvo finalmente terminado, así como también nuestro primer video. Hay un montón de buenos momentos para recordar de los shows en directo y... momentos de torpeza también!! Reacciones de la gente viéndonos sobre el escenario. Tú sabes, hay ciertas caras y personas que nunca olvidaremos!
Las reacciones cuando apareció el primer video! Hubo pánico! No solamente buenas críticas, sino también algunas pesadamente malas! Pero causar tanta reacción sólo puede significar que hicimos algo imponente! Disfrutamos cada segundo de ello, especialmente los malos!

O: Por favor, cuéntanos acerca del CD de WILD KITTEN y del video para la canción "F.U.C.K.".

F: Una sola realización hasta ahora, nuestro primer álbum autotitulado "WILD KITTEN".
Este primer disco fue un inesperado gran éxito! Agotamos todas nuestras copias a través de facebook y de nuestras presentaciones en vivo. Entonces, a través de nuestro sponsor y promotor Berock Radio and Minizine, llegó nuestro contrato de grabación con los italianos Defox Records para la distribución digital de nuestro primer álbum durante diez años en todas las megatiendas digitales del mundo (disponible desde fin de diciembre, principios de enero). Fue una linda sorpresa para nosotros, toda esta conmoción a causa de nuestro primer trabajo!
El video de "F.U.C.K." realmente causó algunas turbulencias! Es provocativo, sexy y rápido! Es exactamente lo que estábamos buscando, y Dada Art Team, con el director Grigoris Apostolopoulos, lograron que sucediera! Fue una gran experiencia grabar ese video, y por supuesto, no vamos a deternernos ahí!

O: Por qué incluyeron una versión de "In the Heat of the Night" de Sandra en la placa?

F: Era una de mis canciones Disco favoritas de los 80's. Y siempre quisimos hacer un cover Disco de los 80's en un estilo más Hard Rock. El resultado les encantó a todos! Esa canción simplemente salió perfecta! Y tuvo todo el reconocimiento que merecía, las radios la querían, fue puesta al aire una y otra vez! Un programa de TV la utilizó como cortina de cierre! Y permaneció en el puesto 5 de los "100.5 Rock" de Thessaloniki, una de las más grandes estaciones de radio del país, por varias semanas entre los nombres más famosos del mundo (recuerdo a Bruce Springsteen siendo el nº 1!). Debido a ese suceso, hemos decidido que haremos otro cover para el segundo álbum, también famoso! No puedo revelar todavía cuál canción va a ser! Pero estén seguros de que va a ser tan perfecta como "In the Heat of the Night", sino más!

O: Grecia es uno de los países europeos que más sufrieron los problemas financieros globales. Cómo han repercutido en la escena de bandas Metal / Rock?

F: Solía ser mucho mejor... Ahora, con todas las turbulencias políticas y económicas que hemos afrontado en los últimos años, todo eso ha afectado la música en Grecia en general, sin mencionar el Rock y Metal underground. Es muy difícil organizar una gira o las presentaciones básicas en vivo, aún dentro de Grecia, mucho menos producir un disco... Pero las dificultades, especialmente en la escena del Heavy Metal y el Hard Rock, fueron siempre usuales aquí en Grecia, así que estamos acostumbrados! Si tú amas mucho alguna cosa, no permitirás que nada ni nadie se meta en tu camino.
Ya ves, el camino al éxito ha sido siempre largo y difícil. Pero si eres lo suficientemente apasionado y no te rindes ante las dificultades, entonces creeremos que todo es posible. El éxito para nosotros es asegurarnos de que la gente se divierta en nuestras presentaciones en vivo, con nuestras canciones o nuestros covers. Desde ese punto de vista, entonces ya somos exitosos.

O: Cuáles son tus sueños personales? Adónde te gustaría llegar con WILD KITTEN?

F: Todo lo lejos que este ómnibus mágico nos pueda llevar! Vamos a entregarle todo lo que tenemos antes de rendirnos. Como le dije hace poco a un amigo mío, la única cosa que no deseo es mirar atrás cuando sea mayor y arrepentirme de no haber dado lo mejor de mí para WILD KITTEN antes de separarnos.

O: Finalmente, cuéntanos acerca de los planes de la banda para 2013...

F: En realidad, estamos produciendo nuestra segunda placa, como te dije. Va a ser mucho más madura y mucho más... elevada!! También va a contener un cover, siguiendo los pasos de la versión de "In The Heat Of The Night" de Sandra que hicimos en nuestro primer disco, la cual probó ser un gran hit, no sólo en Grecia sino también en el extranjero, transformándose en un gran éxito radial! Por el momento no podemos revelar cuál va a ser el cover para el segundo álbum, pero sí podemos prometer que va a ser una enorme sorpresa!
También deberíamos mencionar que previo a la realización del segundo disco, editaremos un single llamado "Scream", que es la única canción influenciada por la situación que ha venido teniendo lugar aquí en Grecia durante los últimos años. El simple también va a estar incluído en el próximo larga duración.
Y por supuesto, algunos nuevos videos serán lanzados también!!

Interview with FOXY, the voice of Greece's WILD KITTEN

1.   Please, tell ppl who doesn't know WILD KITTEN when was the band created and which was the line up. Are still there all the same members?

Wild Kitten were created in January 2008 out of love towards the hard rock – hair metal genre by the lead singer Eliz and the guitar player Nikki Love. The members have changed since the original line up only to come down to the best members so far!! : Roxx Ztarr – drums, John A. Lytras – guitar, Teo Anifas – bass.

2) WILD KITTEN is based in Larisa... What can you tell us about the Metal / Rock scene of your natal city?

The good thing is that new bands arise every day, despite the various difficulties…. That alone is very promising. Larisa has a long history in heavy metal bands but unfortunately it has a history of those bands not lasting very long! It’s not easy getting involved with rock and heavy metal music in Greece because the mainstream is completely different.

Even within the metal scene we’re one of a kind! We’re the only ones in Larissa right now and for the past 4 years that play this kind of music! The rest of the bands are more into stoner or death metal or grunge… It really doesn’t matter, as long as there are bands popping out in rock and heavy metal, that means that we’re still on a good road!

3) And what can you say about that unusual fact of being a Glam Metal / Hard Rock band in Greece...? Your country is one of the Humanity's cultural cradles, but we supposed it must be more difficult than if you were based in Los Angeles, isn't it?

As was mentioned before, it’s not easy playing that kind of music in Greece! But we truly believe that if you’re good and passionate about what you’re doing, then no matter where you are, your work will be recognized. Surely if we lived in L.A. maybe the recognition would be easier and faster but we don’t live in L.A. unfortunately! We’re in Greece and that only means that we have to work harder and become better constantly! And there’s no harm in that!

4) Do you consider that is it possible to turn green again all that magic of the 80's Glam / Hair Metal?

No other era, besides the 80s, had such a magical effect… Why not? It’s the kind of music that will never die and will always be remembered and played constantly by generations to come….I mean, really…Who remembers the 90s or the 00s?! The only thing you can do as a tribute to that wonderful era is to produce something that has a more modern sound, not recreate it, that’s impossible!

5) We could see some images of WILD KITTEN playing live. What can expect a fan in your live gigs?

Pure hard rock with a touch of sleaze - glam!! Reaping riffs but with the necessary amount of melodic tones! Full of energy and passion on stage! And finally they can expect to have one hell of a time!!

6) You're a beautiful woman, with a strong presence and powerful sex appeal. Is it possible to take apart those details from WILD KITTEN music? We mean: which is the importance of all your visual power in the band's offer?

Never been asked this question before! I will never pretend that my appearance didn’t have anything to do with how far we got as a band or how successful we’ve been so far! It is a key element as in every aspect of our lives, whether we like it or not! As far as the band is concerned, I make sure I use all my presence and sex appeal for the benefit of the band and not the other way around! Besides… good looks have always been important to our kind of music ever since the 80s! Visual power is equally important to the music you produce, especially in our days. To believe otherwise, is simply naïve.

7) What about the experiences of the band till now? Which would you say that was its better moment?

Among the live shows and the times when our first cd was finally ready as well as the first video. There are a lot of good moments to remember from the live shows and … awkward moments as well!! Reactions of people watching us on stage. You know, there are certain faces and people that you never forget!

The reactions when the first video came out! It was panic! Not only good criticism but also some heavy bad one too! But to cause so much reaction only meant that we did something awesome! Enjoyed every second of it, especially the bad ones!

 
8) Please, tell us about WILD KITTEN's CD and the video for the song "F.U.C.K.".

One release so far, our first self-titled album “Wild Kitten”.

The first album was a big unexpected hit! We sold out our every copy through Facebook and in our live shows. Then, through our supporter and promoter “BEROCK RADIO AND MINIZINE” came our record deal with Italian DEFOX RECORDS for the digital distribution of our first album for 10 years in all the worldwide digital megastores (available by the end of December, early January). It was a very nice surprise for us, all of this commotion right from the first album!

The video of “F.U.C.K” really caused some turbulence! It’s provocative, sexy and fast! It’s exactly what we were aiming for and “DADA – ART team” with director Grigoris Apostolopoulos made that happen! It was a great experience shooting that video and of course we won’t stop there!

9) Why did you include a cover of Sandra's "In The Heat of the Night" in your álbum? 

 

It was one of my favourite disco songs from the 80s. And we always wanted to do a disco cover from the 80s in more hard rock style! The result amazed everyone! That song simply came out perfect! And it got all the recognition it deserved, radios wanted it, it was played over and over again! A TV show got it for its ending titles! And it remained at number 5 on “100.5 ROCK” of Thessaloniki, one of the biggest rock radio stations of the country, for several weeks among worldwide famous names (I remember Bruce Springsteen being number 1!)

Because of that success, we decided to do yet another cover in the second album, just as famous! But I cannot reveal yet which song it will be! But rest assure it will be just as perfect as “In the Heat of the Night”, if not more!

10) Greece is one of the European countries that more suffered the financial global problems. How did it reverberated in the Metal / Rock bands scene?

 

 

It used to be a lot better… Now, with all the political and economic turbulences we are facing the past few years, all that has affected music in Greece as well, not to mention the underground Rock and Metal. It’s very difficult to organize a tour or the basic live shows, even within Greece, much less produce an album… But difficulties, especially in heavy metal and hard rock scene, were always a big issue here in Greece, so we are used to it! If you love something very much you won’t let anything or anyone get in the way of that.

You see, the road to success has always been long and difficult. But if you’re passionate enough and you don’t give up in front of difficulties then we believe everything is possible. Success for us is to make sure people are having fun in our live shows with our songs as well as our covers. From that point of view, then we’re already successful!

11) Which are your personal dreams? Where would you like to reach with WILD KITTEN?

However far this magic bus takes us! We’ll give it everything we got before we give up. As I said to a friend of mine before, the only thing I don’t want is to look back when I’m older and have regrets about NOT giving my best shot with WILD KITTEN before we split.

12) Finally, tell us about the band's plans for 2013...

 

As a matter of fact we are producing our second album as we speak.

It’s going to be a lot more mature and a lot more… uplifting!! It will also have a cover, following the steps of the cover “In the Heat of the Night” by Sandra which we made in our first album, and which proved to be a great hit, not only abroad but here in Greece as well, becoming a huge radio hit! At the moment we cannot reveal what the cover will be for the second album but we can promise it’s going to be a huge surprise as well!

We should also mention that before the release of the second album, we will release a single called “Scream”, and it’s the only song influenced by the whole situation that’s been taking place here in Greece in the past few years. The single will also be included in the second full-length album.

And of course some new videos have to take place as well!!
